The Pragmatic Romantic

I hide my love behind hard work
’Cause words, they just get tangled
Every time I cook, you smirk
You know I got things handled

Around the house - it’s clean and neat,
For I know how to plan
The hours I need to wash the sheets
And take care of my man

Let me mown the lawn for you
I know you have your passions
Even though I have them too,
But I am quite old fashioned

Yet modern life is cruel, you see
I also own a job
Keeping me on wobbling knees
‘Cause taxes have us robbed

Hush, this will not break me down
As long as we have us
Even though work has me drowned
Our future‘s still a plus

We will see far better days
I feel it in my spine
Let us crush these maiming chains
And earn another dime

The more I work, the less you have to
Care for what is mine
Since you‘re the one I trust and value,
I gift you my time
